New York City-- A New York City police officer made news around the world recently. Not for solving a crime or showing courage in the line of fire. He simply showed a warm side that most of us don't associate with a police officer.
Larry DePrimo is a 25 year old police officer with two years experience. A tourist from Arizona, who is also in law enforcement, witnessed DePrimo providing a homeless man with a pair of boots and socks.
The tourist then posted the story on the NYC Police Department's Facebook page. The story went viral after that.
It's amazing how social media can spread a story so fast and to so many places. There have been comments from around the world on the Facebook page. Media entities around the country have covered this story to some degree.
It's great PR for the NYCPD. Something that they don't always enjoy.
Most of the comments have been positive, although there are a few negative comments out there. Some people suggest that the homeless man is running a scam, and that he has done this before.
Even if he is running a scam, I don't think that changes the story. The point is that the cop took it upon himself to do a kind act without anything in return. I think that is remarkable and makes for a great story. And in perfect time for the Holiday Season!
I remember reading an article on this exact thing. I really hope it isn't a scam, because if that is true, it would look really bad. I really like this story because it just shows some people are still really nice just to be nice in the world. The cop didn't have to do what he did, but he chose too, which is awesome. It really is a great story.
